One of the most recognizable brands in fast food restaurants worldwide, this company serves tens of millions of people daily, with global revenues in the tens of billion dollars. This country operation is one of the company’s most profitable, operating since the 1970s and serving more than 40 million customers per week.

Slow, manual compensation processes create risk exposure

Like many companies, this operation was managing the salary review and bonus allocation processes for its corporate employees using spreadsheets and email. These manual processes were time consuming and carried risks related to accuracy and compliance. For example, the salary review process required one full month to prepare and another full month to complete, using a manual extract from the payroll system into Excel, followed by manually implemented complex calculations in Excel. 

In the spreadsheet environment, the company faced the risk of calculation errors or version control issues, as well as a lack of transparency and controls required for compliance reporting. Manually generating reward letters and using email to communicate and distribute the letters further added to the cumbersome nature of the process and to the difficulty of tracing the process of calculating and approving compensation decisions.

HR sought to digitalize the process to remove the manual tasks and decentralize the review, with the aim of delegating the role to managers and speeding up the compensation cycle.
